The Amazing Life Cycle of Plants

Here is today’s Nature Tuesday video (4/28):

Follow-Up Ideas:

• Go on a seed scavenger hunt of your own! See what seeds you can find outside and/or inside (in your food)!

• Graph your seeds to show how many of each type of seed you found on your scavenger hunt! (Children will need support with this.) Here’s mine:

• Beginning Sound Veggies (document in email): have your child sort the veggies into the pot with the right beginning letter.

Seed Letters (document in email): trace the inside of the bubble letters using seeds! Bird seed works well for this kind of activity.

Flower Garden

Happy Math Monday! Here’s today’s video (4/27):

Follow-Up Ideas:

• Flower Counting and Patterning (from video – document in email): if your child is ready to count to 20 and is interested enough in the activity, there are 20 flowers on the document. If your child is only ready to get to 5, that’s fine too! If your child would rather focus on counting than patterns, or vice versa, and is unable to do both at once, that’s okay! If they are ready to do more complex patterns (ABC or AAB, etc), let them! This is a very flexible activity.

• Flower Pom Pom Counting (document in email): use Pom Poms (or another small manipulative) to make and count flowers! You can also add patterning to this activity if you want to!

• Flower Pattern Stamping (document in email): Use a piece of a pool noodle, an actual flower, a painted Pom Pom, or anything else you can think of to stamp the flower patterns on paper!

Earth Day 🌎

Happy Earth Day! Here’s today’s video (4/22):

Follow-Up Ideas:

• Make your own recycled bottle planter! You can decorate it any way you like!

• Make something out of a recycled box! Big boxes can become forts, cars, or rocket ships! Smaller boxes can be helmets, houses for toys, or car garages! Use your imagination and a box can be anything!

• Watch this Sesame Street clip about what happens to recycling after it leaves your recycling bin:

• Write a thank you note/draw a picture to thank the earth! What are you thankful for that the earth has given us? The oceans? The forests? The animals? The plants? There is so much to be thankful for!

Planting a Rainbow

Here is today’s video (4/21):

Follow-Up Ideas:

• Make your own rainbow garden artwork! You can use Pom-poms like I did in the video, or you can use one of these ideas:

• If your family has a garden, think about the colors that will grow in it. Will your garden have all of the colors of the rainbow?

• Take a walk outside and see if you can find one thing from each color of the rainbow!
